Gemini AI Expands Features on Pixel Phones With New Task Automation

Google has introduced a new set of artificial‑intelligence features for Pixel smartphones through its latest March Pixel Drop update. The update focuses on expanding the capabilities of Gemini, Google’s AI assistant, allowing it to perform real‑world tasks directly from a user’s phone.

One of the most notable additions is Gemini’s new task automation capability. Instead of only answering questions or generating text, the assistant can now complete multi‑step actions inside supported apps. Users can ask Gemini to order groceries, book rides, or reorder common purchases, with the AI handling the process in the background while keeping the user informed.

The feature represents a shift toward so‑called “agentic AI,” where the system can execute tasks rather than simply provide information. Google says users will still remain in control, with the ability to monitor progress or stop tasks if needed.

Alongside automation, the update also introduces deeper integration between Gemini and everyday smartphone activities. A feature called Magic Cue can analyze conversations in messaging apps and suggest relevant actions, such as recommending restaurants when friends are discussing where to eat.

Another improvement comes to Circle to Search, which now has enhanced visual recognition capabilities. The tool can identify multiple objects in images and help users search for products or information without switching between apps.

Google is gradually rolling out these features to supported Pixel devices, with some functions initially available in beta and limited to specific regions and applications.

The update highlights Google’s broader strategy to embed generative AI deeper into the Android ecosystem, turning smartphones into AI‑driven assistants capable of performing everyday digital tasks automatically.
